This piece by Leicestershire artist Lois Pedley, is part of a collection of four original drawings she has produced and were exhibited at the XIV Florence Biennale. The Florence Biennale is an international exhibition of art and design at the Fortezza da Basso, Florence, Italy. There Lois was a participating artist and entered her work under the Drawing and Calligraphy category of art. Lois’ work surrounding the female form is a staple subject in her catalogue of work. Her art focuses on providing a narrative to communicate with the viewer, in this case she is highlighting feminine power, and how it should be respected and appreciated. Her style of photo-realism she achieves with her favourite pen of choice, the Unipin Fineliner from Uniball, provides Lois with the tool she needs to create buttery soft skin tones, depth of shadows and softness of light. She has incorporated elements of nature, here in the form of roses, to act as a symbol of the complexity of a woman’s mind.

‘Enlightened By Her Intellect’ was on display at the XIV Florence Biennale from 14 - 22 October 2023, along with the three other pieces that make up this collection of work.

This original drawing has been set in a custom made frame by local Leicestershire art framers Lilypad Fine Arts.

A note from the Artist about this piece, and the collection of work:

My new work is centred around challenging the objectification of women and pairing it with the respect I have for the female form.

I have combined my obsession with the shapes of the female form with my love for the intricate qualities of roses and likening their layers to the depth of a woman's mind.

This exploration of my passion for pen drawing and the female form has allowed me to solely focus on the beauty that lies upon and within a woman. By drawing the body in these poses, I hope to communicate with the viewer in an intimate way. I invite you into the presence of all women, but first, make you understand you must respect our minds, our intelligence, our abilities, before you can ever be granted further access to anything else we have to offer.

As much as I respect the way we are all formed, we would be nowhere without our minds. What we think and feel are a vital part of who we are. The beauty of a woman's mind is unmatched. She is complex, delicate, strong and intelligent. That is her power.

‘Enlightened By Her Intellect’ is part of my new collection of four original drawings.

The titles for the whole collection are:

‘Armed With Her Mind’

‘The Beauty Of Her Wisdom’

‘Enlightened By Her Intellect’

‘Harnessing Her Power’

These were exhibited at the XIV Florence Biennale from Saturday 14th October 2023 until Sunday 22nd October 2023.

As a stipulation of the curatorial board of the Florence Biennale, the original drawings were not able to be released for sale until after the exhibition closed.

The artworks had to be brought back to the UK after the exhibition had closed, and not sold until I had the relevant signed and stamped documentation in line with UK and Italian custom regulations.

All the necessary paperwork is now in place and the original drawings can now be sold.

If the buyer(s) reside in the UK, complimentary hand delivery by the artist will be arranged after purchase.

If the buyer(s) reside outside of the UK, it is the buyer(s) responsibility and duty to acquire and pay for any and all of the necessary documentation to export the artwork(s) to their country of residence. This includes all duties, taxes and any fees for shipping.
